Pro's news

Na’s Got Seoul

Kevin Na’s final-round 66 at Colonial saw the 35-year-old sweep to his third PGA Tour title by four shots from big-hitting Tony Finau.

Na is proof that sometimes sheer driving power is not always the answer, averaging 'just' 280 yards off the tee (still a long way but far shorter than a majority of his competitors). Fortunately for Na, Colonial is a tight track where placement over power is the key to victory and as the only man in Tour history to have recorded three rounds of 62 or better at Colonial - as well as co-owning the course record of 61 - it was inevitable he would one day claim the title for his own.

Scotty Cameron + Hole In One Challenge - Friday 14th June

Many of you will have seen Andy Sullivan’s 500 ball hole in one challenge that was recently around social media. The Professional staff here at Abbeydale have a very similar challenge on Friday 14th June. From 7pm onwards we will have 400 golf balls to make a hole in one. The event has been arranged to raise money for the Captain’s charity and we have a ‘guess the shot’ draw running in the shop. Please pop in and speak with us for more info.

Scotty Cameron are with us on the same day from 2-6pm. Everyone is welcome, simply turn up and have a go with the latest putters including the new Phantom X range.

If you’re wanting to find out your yardages, clubhead speed and ball speed, then be sure to check out our FlightScope Mevo.

The Mevo is great for checking your distances and can be rented from us to use on the practice ground.

1 gap, 2 options

The term 'gapping' is commonly used to refer to the yardage distance between each of the wedges in your bag. We want to break this thought process and get you to think about gapping for your entire set, because any unequal gaps between clubs will have a detrimental impact on your game.

Gapping at the top end

One part of your set that needs careful consideration is how you transition from your irons into your woods. Lots of golfers struggle to hit their longer irons and instead opt for a replacement hybrid or a more forgiving option, which can lead to large gaps between clubs if you're not careful.

So, what's the solution? Well, take advantage of our services and professional advice, and we'll make sure you have the perfect club/s to fill any gaps at the top end of your bag.

What are your options?

We'll start with Titleist's 818 hybrids. There are two models to choose from: the 818 H1 is a tremedously forgiving option that launches high into the air for impressive distance, whilst the 818H2 is aimed for those after precise yardages and control.

If you're a confident ball-striker, it might be a case of looking at a utility iron like Titleist's T-MB. More forgiving than a traditional muscle back iron, the T-MB delivers a high launch and faster ball speeds for ultimate performance.

So whether you're after a hybrid that will land softer into the greens or a utility iron that is perfect off the tee, speak to a member of the team about your choices.
