Hideki Matsuyama had the round of his life at The Players last week only to see the tournament cancelled hours after signing his scorecard.

Talking about great rounds, we decided to have a look at how a change in your driver can help you lower your scores. You will also find our excellent regular features this week, including an update on the situation regarding the coronavirus at Abbeydale GC so why not grab a coffee and have a look through.

Club news

COVID-19 - the current situation at Abbeydale GC

The Golf Club are very concerned about the health and well-being of our members and guests and urge you all to follow government advice. We are closely monitoring the current situation and will keep members up to date regarding any changes at the Club.

The Club remains open for the time being and we ask golfers to abide by the following:

  • Wash hands thoroughly before and after play, use hand sanitiser during your round if possible.
  • Retain as much distance as practicable between each other.
  • Putt with the flagstick in.
  • Do not shake hands at any point and avoid physical contact.
  • All bunkers are out of play.
  • Do not use ball washers.

Individual coaching is still available and the golf shop/clubhouse currently remain open.

We are doing all we can to keep people out on the course and in the fresh air.

Please stay safe everyone.

Matsuyama's record round

Hideki Matsuyama shot an incredible 63 at last week’s Players Championship to equal the course record only to see the tournament cancelled due to the Coronavirus the very next day. It looks like the right decision though and now The Masters have followed suit in postponing until a later date.

But the big question is when will it be rescheduled for? In a Ryder Cup year, there is little room left for manoeuvre so will something be shunted out later in the year to make way? Only time will tell.
